After watching dozens of montages that made me laugh and made me cry, I marvel at the fact that there are so many people that Clay changes through his voice, his works, and his spirituality. So many of my friends, my fellow Clay fans, and even non Clay lovers have asked me "I wonder if he knows what he does to us? Does he know how many lives has he changed?" The truth is, no one knows. At least not his fans. Perhaps his family or his friends. I can only hope that Faye or Nick, or Mary sits him down and shows him what he has done for a whole world of us Clay fans. I hope he looks beyond  just his official fan club to the other fans out there who love him but cannot, for whatever reason, get a membership.

Clay has brought about a tidal wave of change amongst many people. Wouldn't it be nice if the whole world treated one another the way most Clay fans treat each other and "Clay It Forward"?

It seems like an easy enough thing to do, doesn't it? If we feel that way towards total strangers who love Clay as we do, why can it not be done on a daily basis with other individuals? What stops us from going that extra step or extra mile for our fellow man, co-workers, family members and friends?

Does Clay know that he makes many non believers believe in God?

Does Clay know that he brings joy to those who have only felt sorrow for days, months and even years?
Does he know, that through his melodious voice, he takes us back to our musical roots?
What about his morals? Does he know that he sets an example for teens when it comes to
saving oneself for the "right" person?

Is he aware that he eases physical pain just by a mere glance of his beautiful face?

Does he know that he inspires creativity in people who thought those things lay dormant within themselves forever?
People write poetry about him. They write essays, make beautiful montages for him. They draw pictures and his image is etched on paper forever. Is he aware of the time and effort his fans put into all the gifts we make for him-whether a story, a painting, a poem, a song? He gives people courage to use that voice that God has given us, to take that first step, (as I do here on this site as often as I can).

Did Faye Parker realize that she chose THE PERFECT name for her son? Clay? That one day her firstborn child that she gave birth to, would mold the minds and hearts and souls of a nation? That he would give all of us a reason go on with our lives and not give up? Or that seeing him on television or in concert would be the highlight of our week or year? Clay has cured depression, eased bodily pain, healed broken hearts, inspired passion in some? What about those of us who knew we wanted to do something with ourselves, to make a difference, but were never sure what it was, but now we do? He makes many of us forget our own pain, and focus on something or someone other than ourselves and our self pity.

Let's not forget some of the older ladies ( and yes, some gentlemen too) that sat at home, with nothing to look forward to, and when they heard Clay's voice, it stirred something in them in a way that they hadn't felt in many years? He makes us remember what it felt like to have our first school crush, our first love, and he gives us a purpose to get up in the morning? He takes them back to the days of Frank, Dean, and Sammy Davis Jr.

How about the fact that middle aged women plan their days around t.v. shows that he is scheduled to appear on , simply to see him talk and laugh and joke around, even if just for five minutes? Does he know he is the subject of many women's deepest desires and fantasies of what a "real man " should be like? Caring, loving, gentle, giving, morally upright. When they see him kiss a cheek or kiss a hand, he creates a collective sigh among the women. Now THAT is what is called "sexy". A confident, self assured man who carries himself well.

I am sure Clay still has doubts about his ability to attract a female and he is still boggled as to what in the world we see in him. What we see is beauty personified. The rest of the world can have Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Mel Gibson. They don't impress me anymore. Good actors yes, but what Clay has is something above and beyond that. It is his ability to transcend these men in terms of talent, looks, and manliness. By manliness, I mean being a gentleman. Not how macho they can or cannot be.

Is he aware of the teenagers who are the nerds and the geeks, who sit in class everyday and wish they were dead because they are the butt of someone's joke? Does Clay realize that many of those teens keep him in mind when they contemplate suicide? He helps them remember that yes, things DO indeed get better and" this too shall pass"? Or that it makes teens aware that it is ok to befriend the "outsider" of the class, the one with the dorky glasses, odd clothing, and funny laugh, to stand up for them and be a leader themselves?

Does he? Does Clay truly understand that it is almost as if he were a prophet, a subject of Divine Inspiration, and he has a following that he molds with each thing he does? We are clay in Clay's hands.

He has a power and sense of leadership about him that our country and music industry has been lacking for a long, long time. If more people opened their eyes and saw what we saw, they would encourage their kids to emulate him. Not become him, but use him as a guide, an example of a peer who has been there, done that, and moved on. He is more than a singer, actor, activist, and teacher. He is a force to be reckoned with, and so are his fans.

That is why we stand in line for 12 hours or more for tickets to see him in concert. That is why the fans are so supportive. That is why we buy anything and everything we can get our hands on that has Clay on it. It's addicting. It's almost a natural high that we get from being near him, loving him, and seeing him. He will forever be our idol, he will forever be OMC, and he will, just be the virtue of being himself, be the Clay that molded us into what we all should really be.

He taught us to learn to sing loud and clear.

The Clay That Molds Us
