The King is Dead, Long Live the King!
Clay was amazing in his performance of Elvis, there were so many times he sounded just like Presley it gave me goose bumps and his swiveling hips, well, swiveled to perfection!! Two Southern boys brought up in hard times, little money to go around, each carrying deep hurts and sorrows, both shy & both had a voice to make you cry. That’s pretty much where the similarities end…Elvis was dark and brooding and while fans screamed and fainted at his shows there wasn’t that personal connection to any of them. Clay on the other hand has a spirit that glows while he sings, he is light and laughter, his fans follow him and scream for him and although no one to my knowledge has fainted, they will come from far away, in wheel chairs and in ambulances just to hear him sing live, to have his light shed on them, to have their spirits lifted as only Clay can. He is warm and loving and inviting. Clay knows his fans and tries to give us everything we want, he knows some of us by name and invites us into his world by making us a part of each and every show. …no other singer to date has had the fan base and the adoration that Clay Aiken has. No other singer has had the support and the allegiance from fans that we shower upon Clay. No other singer is King of his own nation.
The Jukebox Tour was amazing, it was fun and funny, it was upbeat and soul stirring, it touched hearts and brought back the memories of many fans’ teen years. It was nostalgic and a touch of yesteryear with songs of love and innocence. The show made me think of American Bandstand and running home from school every afternoon just to catch Justine out on the dance floor. The girls were dressed in straight skirts with a kick pleat & flats, the guys wore blazers or sport coats, some had ties, and all were dressed neatly. Some girls had pony tails with neckerchiefs tied in them and some wore button down cardigans put on backwards, perhaps creating the first of the pullover sweater tops! We had the lindy, the hop, the cha cha and the stroll. It was fun and Clay brought all of that back to us for several nights in several cities. I wish this particular tour would have run for months and I dearly wish that all of Clay’s fans would have been able to enjoy this smash hit of a concert series!
Coming back to the 21st century and summing up my thoughts…while Elvis was named the King of Rock & Roll…Clay Aiken is the King of his own empire, the ClayNation, he rules with firm yet gentle hands, with winks and smiles to melt snow caps, with gestures of hope and good deeds, he rules with love and patience, he rules with a spirit that radiates the brightest glow and he lends that spirit, that light to his nation…most of all Clay Aiken rules with that heavenly voice!

Clay Aiken knows only too well where to go to get his fill of love and adoration...right back "home" to the beckoning venues that will house thousands upon thousands of adoring fans. Fans who by now are more like extended family members. Clay also knows that he is respected, revered, and beloved and is just so bedazzled by besotted fans!
I believe we have worked our way into Clay's soul just as he has worked his way into our hearts. How could we not have by now? He has never felt so loved and so cared for as he has since 2003...we have nurtured him, supported him, fought for him and made him America's Sweetheart! Something, not even in his wildest dreams could he have ever imagined! But we did it...we made his dreams come true. A dream to make a difference in his lifetime, a dream to be a teacher and is now that teacher on a grander scale, a dream to be loved and no longer be bullied or rejected and perhaps in more recent years a distant dream come true, the one he put on the "back burner" of his life… to have a singing career.
Dreams do come true!
How I longed to hear Clay Aiken sing the songs I grew up with, to brandish them with his own style and make you feel as though you were hearing them for the first time…he does that you know, he takes a song, perhaps old and forgotten by time and a new generation, and he resurrects it with the power and range of that voice we have come to love and cherish so very much! The song that touched my heart the most and filled my eyes with tears was Clay’s eloquent version of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” it was soft and sweetly sorrowful, it was a goodbye to a loved one that tore at your heart, I will never forget that magnificent voice coming through the surround of speakers filling in every corner of your senses and making you want to enfold him in your arms and tell him everything is all right and that you love him and forever will!
